In 1955 - 70 years ago - the Caravelle by French manufacturer Sud Aviation took off on its maiden flight. It was one of the first jet-powered commercial aircraft for short and medium distances. The arrangement of the engines at the rear was new at the time - a concept that would later often be copied. Commemorating this anniversary, Herpa is offering a small series of Caravelle models as limited editions in the 1/500 scale. The series starts off with a Caravelle in the colors of Finnair. Finland’s Aviation Museum Society acquired the aircraft from Sweden in 2021. Formerly operated as SE-DAF “Sven Viking”, the aircraft had been parked at Arlanda Airport since 1974. In 2022, extensive work began to restore the aircraft and paint it in Finnair’s livery of the 1960s. After being refurbished on the interior as well, OH-LEA, as she is now registered, is on display and open to the public at Turku Airport.

Accurate and nice model.
A good attempt at this livery ! Same sort of shade that the silver/pearlescent paint job it had in real life and too date no brand has ever go truly right! Though the 2 Phoenix versions of 300 and 600 variants A340 types they released in this Virgin Atlantic livery of the time is best so far i have seen!
Why? More grey looking but not too dark, a fail in the sense NOT metallic but the brands that did do metallic paint like Gemini and Dragon Wings in the past when this livery actual adorned the real aircraft was too metallic Silver! It was a silver paint used by brands and the real paint look was really hard to get right as it had a metallic look but the same dull grey look the old BA Landor silver/grey matte job paint had!
In real life it did have a metallic look but no brand has ever really captured the real paint look,should have asked VA or Airbus what it was?
So overall,Phoenix are still in my mind the best at A340s,even so Av400 ones are very good too and HX.
My mark,8/10. Reason , paint not quite but best so far by anyone and not as modern with details like HX/YY wings and AV400 do on attention to details ! Example, engine details on engine cover art and jewel lights that Av400 offer!

A very good model, solid landing gear with rubber wheels and well built with lots of detail. The ANA livery really stands out and an amazing amount of detail printed on the model. The only criticism would be the engine cowlings are a bit too think compared to the real life jet, but this is probably limitations in the manufacturing and materials used. It doesn't really detract from the model, especially at this size.
Great detail for size, engine proportions are spot on and look better than some 1/400 in my opinion. The plastic landing gear look good and are well made. With it compact size is much easier to display than the larger 1/200 or 1/400 models especially if space is a limiting factor for your models.

Absolutely amazing, it is the perfect size for playing, and displaying, super realistic, what is not to love (but the price).
The model is perfect the paint is the same as the real plane the landing gear tilts and the front gear turns the engine blades move this model is hyper realistic it looks good with and without gear there are some sharp bits on the fuselage so keep close care you can hold it from any point and doesn't break it is very sturdy on the stand and there's only 1 problem what the windows on the fuselage are slightly off from the real plane but you are definitely able to see past that there is a pin in the landing gear bag so be careful and this is definitely the best model I've got after collecting for years it's the next best thing from having the real plane it just feels alive
