Aviationtag x Lufthansa Glare Edition

With this variant, the Lufthansa A380 D-AIMI "Berlin" Edition takes on a new material dimension: GLARE.

GLARE (Glass Laminate Aluminium Reinforced Epoxy) is a fibre-reinforced hybrid material consisting of thin aluminium layers and glass fibre layers. Airbus originally developed the material in collaboration with TU Delft to reduce weight while increasing fatigue and corrosion resistance. The A380 was the first to use GLARE on a large scale on the upper deck of the fuselage, a technological milestone in civil aircraft construction.

The D-AIMI, MSN 072, made its maiden flight in November 2011 and was decommissioned during the COVID period. Her last transfer took place on 22 February 2021. With the GLARE variant, an edition is now being created from precisely this high-tech material, visible in the fine layer structures on the cut edge.

In contrast to the aluminium version, GLARE has a characteristic, slightly textured surface. Each layer tells of the design innovation that made the A380 one of the most technologically sophisticated commercial aircraft of its time.

This officially licensed Aviationtag x Lufthansa Edition combines aviation history with one of the most exciting materials in modern aircraft construction, reduced, authentic and documented.
